How ironic
What’s funny about this is that the folks in Alabama treat this song like something that is calling them winners. Very ironic to see the true meaning.

Deacon Blues - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Re the chorus:
They’ve got a name for the winners in the world.
I want a name when I lose.
They call Alabama, “The Crimson Tide”
Call me, “Deacon Blues.”

MacHeist revisited
Contrary to my previous post about MacHeist, I went ahead and participated. I got to thinking about the MacHeist model and I could start seeing why a developer would participate. The MacHeist program is a good way to get your app into the hands of potential users that may not otherwise buy the app for the full purchase price. In my case, I was thinking about buying Espresso for the PHP...

Argument against MacHeist →
I tend to agree with Marco on this one. I’m a software developer and if I were to develop an application that I worked hard at to provide an elegant solution to a problem, I would hate to have the message from my users be that they like the app (Yea!) but that they don’t like it enough to pay for it (Boo!!). A developer’s time is worth something. In fact, it’s worth...

You can't polish a turd →
This is a video of a demo of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. The guy giving the demo is running it on an HTC device and towards the end he made the statement “I don’t think it will work on this device”. When I heard that, I immediately thought about how important it is the Apple makes the device and the OS. They can ensure that all features will work on the device that you buy....
Downward spiral of American cuisine →
This site shows how disturbing (and creative) we Americans can be when it comes to making the most unhealthy food in the world.

To the victor go the spoils
A friend of mine on Facebook, who happens to be a vocal Democrat, today posted a comment saying that Fox News is now no longer relevant. This was said because now that a Democrat is the president, there is no place for the “conservative” media source. This struck a nerve with me.
Using this same logic, that would mean that CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, and CBS were not relevant during the...
Belkin fake review scam uncovered on Amazon →
Truly despicable business practices on the part of a Belkin employee uncovered by The Daily Background. A must-read for anyone considering trusting Amazon reviews when making purchases.

Action plan for 2009
Why not call them resolutions like the rest of the civilized world?
Well, it’s that time of the year to think about the time I wasted in 2008 and to look forward to a new year full of promise. I don’t like to think about resolutions because resolutions seem so temporal for just the year. It’s like saying that these are the things I’m going to do for 2009 and already...

Webnesia
Webnesia is a word I use to describe when I’ve forgotten what I was doing due to being distracted by content on the web. This happens a lot when I’m going to look something up online and something else catches my attention and, by the time I finish with that item, I’ve forgotten what I was originally going to look up.
Update: Just discovered that this is already in the Urban...

This weekend I picked up a used 1TB Time Capsule for our home network. Not having configured one of these in the past, I went through my normal wireless access point (WAP) process of writing down all the network information including SSID, WPA key, etc. When I connected to the Time Capsule for the first time, it asked me if I wanted to replace a WAP on my network. I selected my old WAP and it...

The day has finally come
My wife surprised me this afternoon with a box containing the ESV Study Bible that was released today that I pre-ordered months ago. This thing is a work of beauty and will (hopefully) be well used over the coming years. The packaging was very simple (almost Apple-like) and the Bible inside is a work of art. Not just the inspired words of Almighty God but the presentation.
Tonight is the real...
Sales 101
In watching the recent series of presidential debates, one thing is ringing true to me: neither candidate knows how to sell themselves to me.
I watched the presidential debate the other night and at about the mid-point of that slug-fest I turned to my wife and opined about how I wish the candidates would speak to why they should be president and not why their opponent should not be president. ...

How much does it cost to get into prison these...
I opened the Birmingham News this morning to find a story on the front page of a former Jefferson County commissioner who committed obstruction of justice to hide $4000 in “gifts” in the sewer scandal that is rocking the city.
$4000. That’s it. Not millions. Not even enough to buy a car.
This woman, Mary Buckelew, is now going to go to prison for not only accepting gifts...
iPhone Cover Flow now useful
The problem
I’ve always loved the look of the Cover Flow view of the iPhone when rotated landscape. The nasty little bug where the album art wouldn’t update when the playing track changed drove me nuts and made it very hard to use Cover Flow when playing in “Shuffle” mode.
Designing a user-centric solution
Well, it looks like it drove Apple engineers nuts enough to...
