To the victor go the spoils
A friend of mine on Facebook, who happens to be a vocal Democrat, today posted a comment saying that Fox News is now no longer relevant. This was said because now that a Democrat is the president, there is no place for the “conservative” media source. This struck a nerve with me.
Using this same logic, that would mean that CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, and CBS were not relevant during the last 8 years because they are viewed as the “liberal” media. That also screams of someone that doesn’t believe in hearing all sides of a story to determine where they stand on an issue. Reporters, because of their human nature, will always report with a bias. It’s just human nature to let your personal history/perception affect your interpretation of events. We all do it. That’s the fun of talking to multiple people about what happened at an event…everyone saw or noticed something different. In the same vein, a wise person will watch/read as many different perspectives as they can to understand a news story to help them determine where they stand with regard to the story. It would be foolish to trust a single news source for all your news because you’re going to be jaded with that news source’s bias (individual or collective).
So my response is that it would be hard for a new source to become no longer relevant unless there ceases being news. And last time I checked, we just got a new president so there’s bound to be plenty of opportunity for news.
